woken’glacier theatre company will be presenting two workshop performances of Quartet by German playwright Heiner Müller, directed by Ronit Muszkatblit. Based on Laclos’s novel Les Liasions Dangeruses, Heiner Müller’s Quartet imagines the characters Merteuil and Valmont in a bomb shelter after a nuclear war. The once debaucherous Merteuil finds her former equal, Valmont, now ripe with morality. Merteuil resists his persuasion and implements a series of role-plays in order to prove Valmont’s recent change of moral fibre to be false and to recruit him back to their previous corrupt life. Through Muller’s unconventional language and role-playing, this production of Quartet blends psychological truth and stylisation to accentuate the issue of pride and stubbornness. The action on stage will be accompanied by live sound driven by the actors' own presence. As they generate it, the sound extends the boundaries of their persons, creating an additional expressive medium, while simultaneously imposing rhythmic and spatial constraints, and thus influencing their experience. woken’glacier is dedicated to creating theatrical pieces which expose the many forms of abuse found both socially and politically in the world around us. Their process synthesizes the methods of Stanislavski with more physical/non-linear techniques.layer The cast consists of: Jeramiah Peay and Henriette
